Engaged at Australian Red Cross as Principal Program Officer, Red Cross-Woorabinda Partnership. Position involves a dual role working on place based issues impacting on Red Cross services and staff in Woorabinda while also performing a community development role with Council which includes development of submissions and tenders. Background of over 25 years in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education policy and programs, initially as National Director of Targeted Assistance programs from the onset of national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander legislation - Indigenous Education Policy (IEP). The role involved the conceptualisation of national direct assistance programs, development of policy and program guidelines, staff training and data collection. Policy management of ABSTUDY formed part of the role. Later, moving to Queensland and taking the role of State Manager of those programs involved greater interface with stakeholders. IEP policy and programs provided for supplementary per capita funding to State and independent education, training and tertiary education providers with a requirement to agree to performance targets. Ongoing monitoring and negotiation was critical part of the role. The role also provided the opportunity to work with stakeholders from a whole of government perspective to contribute to innovative projects aimed at demonstrating good practice in Indigenous education and training by accelerating sustainable outcomes. Prior to joining the Commonwealth Government in the mid 1980s, management positions in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander controlled organisations in North Queensland and the Northern Territory.
