Dennis Abalos is an Industrial designer based in Sydney, Australia. His passion for design and creation led him to graduate in 2005 from the University of Technology Sydney with First Class Honours in Industrial Design with a Sub major in Interior Design - Furniture Design.Abalos draws inspiration from the traditional craft-based skills in his Philippine heritage together with the fresh and limitless ideology of modern Australian Design.His philosophy and approach is to discover and recognise opportunities for innovation, interpret problems and create new and exciting design solutions that contribute positively to people’s experiences.Abalos has always produced consistently unique work, pushing production techniques to new and innovative forms and ideas in furniture and lighting.His continued persistence in production of prototype products, most of which are handmade by Abalos or resolved with local Sydney manufacturing base, have given him significant Australian recognition.Abalos has an impressive folio of works, ranging from mass-produced consumer products, to unique furniture pieces and innovative lighting designs. His regular participation in annual design exhibitions, such as Workshopped for the Sydney Design Festival, Saturday InDesign and others, have given him international exposure.Abalos’ pieces have featured regularly in Australian and international design publications including InDesign, DQ, Vogue Living, POL Oxygen, Designer - Design on the Edge, Inside Out, Domain, Belle, and many others. Abalos has also achieved design accolades, having been awarded prizes and been winner and finalist in many design competitions.Specialties: Abalos focuses on development and design of products for manufacturers and retailers. He has collaborated with numerous international companies from furniture, lighting and homeware products. Abalos has worked together with Australian manufacturers and retailers where several products have been developed commercially for the Asia Pacific market.Abalos continues to collaborate with local and international manufacturers along with producing his own collection under the abalos brand.
