As the Global Health Security (GHS) lead at the USAID funded SOCIAL AND BEHAVIOR CHANGE ACTIVITY (SBCA), provide Social Behavioral Change (SBC) related technical assistance and capacity strengthening to the One Health (OH) sector. My role focuses on providing support to the national level line ministries and National One Health Platform (NOHP) stakeholders, National Task Force (NTF) through the Risk communication and Social Mobilization (RC and SM) pillar by enhancing coordination and strengthening the systems’ readiness to prevent, detect and respond. At the sub national level my focus is on capacity optimization and transfer of skills to regional Public Health Emergency Operation Centre (PHEOC), district local governments and USAID implementing partners (IPs). Support is also extended to on ground risk communication and community engagement implementation at the district level is supported by the PHEOC and regional IPs that provide the technical assistance (TA) to the District One Health Teams (DOHTs). I support develop risk communication systems and community engagement strategies that allow for effective outbreak response to all public health emergencies and other prioritized zoonotic diseases.

Draw up a rural sanitation market model Improving demand creation, supply chain and assessment and strengthening of the enabling environment. Pilot the model in the intervention area to accelerate achievement of improved sanitation. Identify, arrange and build capacity of local government to promote and of private sector to set up and strengthen the improved sanitation supply chain to move communities from tradition/unimproved to improved sanitation.

Water and Sanitation Program - WSP-AF/World Bank, in partnership with members of the National Sanitation Working Group; includes Government of Uganda, development partners and NGOs is part of the efforts to promote improved sanitation using different methodologies including Community Led Total Sanitation and Sanitation Marketing to address both behaviour change and improvement in supply chain. Sanitation Coverage in Uganda is low at 69% (Sector Performance Report, 2012) but at 34% (Joint Monitoring Program. There is need to improve access hence this program to accelerate sanitation achievements. To establish a new norm in Uganda where every rural household possesses and uses an improved latrine that is safe, easy to clean and sealable with a hand washing facility.
