I rotated shifts after school and on the weekends, and went full time during every summer. We manufactured mostly soda bottles, including many commemorative bottles, Ball canning jars, and various other odd glass bottles and jars. We eventually put in clad plastic wrap spray machines to coat our thin glass 2 liter bottles to prevent bottles exploding in grocery stores, but the market was moving rapidly to plastic bottles and eventually killed off the bulk of our business anyway. I stayed out of college and worked one full year here while at Clemson (ran out of money). The environment was one of constantly rotating shifts, a union shop, and in an environment of up to 130 degrees while operating some machines. I went from sweeping floors at 17 years old to becoming a machine operator on eight different machines, including decorator and clad operations- the most technical, and driving a forklift.
