Dennis Flinn is a Principal Consultant working in the area of distribution engineering. He has completed projects relating to substation and feeder expansion and photovoltaic penetration. He has also worked with utilities building financial models regarding the implementation of Smart Grid (specifically AMI, distribution automation, and IT back office applications). The Smart Grid projects also required Dennis to analyze the present distribution systems and evaluate the expansion of current (and future) distribution automation technologies.

Columbus, Ohio Area

Dennis’ primary responsibility was to support software related to distribution line design. This includes both electrical and structural analysis. Dennis also supports hand-held data collection software/hardware systems that use GPS and wireless technologies. This includes applications used for the design of distribution systems, collection of asset data, and outage management. AEP has approximately 500 engineers/ technicians using these applications.

Carlisle, Pa

He was responsible for the overall management and direction of all electric products including SynerGEE. This includes the steady state and overcurrent protection programs along with additional modules that transfer data and results to outside sources. Area responsibilities include software development and testing, documentation, client support, and business development.

Franksville, Wi

Responsibilities included overseeing and directing all development of the Power Verdict software package. He was also responsible for directing other software projects within Cooper Power Systems. This included training software for product lines, communication software for electronic controls (reclosers & regulators), and expert systems. He also coordinated outside software contractors. Dennis was one of the major designers of the V-GRAPH, V-CAP, and V-PRO programs. These programs were the first Microsoft Windows programs developed at Cooper Power Systems.

Greater Pittsburgh Area

Responsibilities include analyzing distribution systems for the Electrical Utility industry. Other tasks include customer support of the CADPAD software as well as providing software and hardware systems recommendations for the customer’s best utilization of the product. He installed CADPAD software at utility sites and taught numerous training seminars worldwide on the use of CADPAD. Later, Dennis took on the responsibility of supervising the development direction of CADPAD by coordinating program modifications and enhancements.
