Scientist in the Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences group in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Supply, an interdisciplinary group in Drug Discovery that interfaces with medicinal chemistry, biology, pharmacology, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, process chemistry, materials science, and formulation development. Some activities include: * Improving small molecule and peptide drug candidates from discovery lead optimization through development by understanding and improving the physicochemical properties of drug candidates. * Developing new drug delivery and formulation technologies for small molecules and peptides to support in vivo studies at a wide range of dose levels (from low dose efficacy to high dose toxicology) and through a variety of administration paradigms (acute and chronic studies involving oral, intravenous, and other parenteral delivery routes). This includes developing a strong expertise in drug nanoparticle formulations and establishing new peptide formulation capabilities within Merck. * Fully supporting Discovery teams (from Target Validation to Lead Identification and Lead Optimization) to ensure compounds with reduced development risks are brought forward.* Providing a leadership role in developing new research and technology initiatives, as well as mentoring and guiding associate scientists and postdoctoral research fellows.
