I have a deep professional commitment to public service and an award-winning record of innovation, leadership, strategic planning, and effective management. While I have spent most of my career working in the criminal justice system, I find my current focus on human trafficking to be particularly rewarding. Current projects include teaching courses on human trafficking and serving as the faculty adviser to UAlbany Students Stopping the Trafficking of People (SSTOP). SSTOP has won several university awards and had a major role in helping UAlbany earn designation as a Fair-Trade institution in 2021. I recently finished writing a book with input from SSTOP members about the ways that each person can help build a slave-free world. Ph.D. in criminal justice with extensive practical and academic experience.Leadership positions in the development and implementation of several major New York State programs, a new interdisciplinary homeland security training center, training curricula in several subject areas, and State correctional standards. Successfully designed, implemented, and evaluated policy relevant research. Earned New York State certifications as a Police Instructor and Instructor Evaluator. Also certified as an Advanced Police Planner. Case management work with juveniles and adult offenders. Extensive volunteer work including service in the Peace Corps and activities taken on behalf of domestic violence survivors and crime victims generally.Numerous honors including a Gubernatorial commendation for developing and coordinating the NYS Law Enforcement Counter-Terrorism Training Program. Academic honors include a State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching, a University at Albany President's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and an Adjunct Undergraduate Teaching Award from the UAlbany College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity. I have also won the 2021 UAlbany Terra Award for helping the university become a Fair Trade institution, recognition from the UAlbany Student Association as the Outstanding Faculty Adviser for the 2017- 2018 academic year.
