Dennis McLeavey is Founder of the Ram Fund and Professor Emeritus of Finance at the University of Rhode Island. With an undergarduate degree in Economics from Western University, a Doctorate from Indiana University, a Charter as a CFA from CFA Institute, a Certificate in Social Media Marketing from Cornell University (2022), and a certificate in Strategic Decisions and Risk Management from Stanford University (2012), he maintains a focus on financial economics. Recent Activities include:Serving on a not-for-profit Investment Trust Board, establishing an Investment Policy Statement and moving the Trust away from excessive investment fees. Serving as a social media consultant for a not-for-profit, raising the organization’s profile in the community.Previously, he was a fellow of the American Production and Inventory Control Society and he served as Vice-President of Curriculum Development at CFA Institute, co-authoring several texts for use in the CFA program: Global Investments, Quantitative Investment Analysis, and Equity Asset Valuation (1st edition). He also supervised and co-edited the revision of Managing Investor Portfolios. Other texts he has co-authored are Production Planning and Inventory Control and Operations Research for Management Decisions. His research has been published in Management Science, the Journal of Operations Research, and the Journal of Portfolio Management. He has taught at Western University, the University of Connecticut, Boston University, Babson College, and the University of Virginia. Consulting assignments have included the American Petroleum Institute and New England Telephone. Dennis served as chairperson of the CFA Institute Retirement Investment Policy Committee and as a New York Stock Exchange Arbitrator. After studying economics to earn his bachelor’s degree at Western University in 1968, he earned a doctorate in production management and industrial engineering, minor in mathematics, from Indiana University, 1972, with the late John F. Muth as his dissertation chair. Dennis earned the CFPIM designation in 1980 and his CFA charter in 1990.
