I worked in finance and consulting for nearly a decade and almost crumbled.(Like literally)In one role, it was the travel. Between flying out to clients + my soul-sucking commute I lived in a permanent fight-or-flight state seven days a week.In another, I worked 70+ hrs/wk and sold HNW ($10M+) clients on “solutions” they didn’t need.Professionally, these roles supercharged my career.Personally, they wrecked me:- I gained weight- My stress levels were through the roof- The relationships I cared about most were in disrepairI was deeply passionate about financial planning, but I knew there had to be a better way.When I finally pivoted to launching wHealth Advisors in 2019, my partner and I founded the firm on a few key tenets. To always be: - objective in our advice- transparent with our fees- comprehensive in scope (beyond investments) - proactive not reactive- empathetic in our approachHaving a wife that completed dental school, I initially targeted medical professionals.At least that was the plan.Then, Covid hit.A new business owner. A new dad. An upside-down world.I felt myself floundering and started:- Skipping exercise- Eating crap food- Drinking too much- Staying indoors all day- Getting poor sleep- Feeling uninspiredIt was around then that the parallels between health and wealth became too obvious to ignore.I stopped targeting medical professionals that I didn’t relate to.I started leaning into what I knew to be true:→ The most meaningful returns in life come from compound interest (think: health, wealth, relationships, knowledge etc.)→ A calm mind, a fit body, and a home full of love must be earned, not purchased. → We are who we surround ourselves with, only play long-term games with long-term peopleI strive everyday to live a life in integrity with these points and I have the privilege of working with an intentionally small roster of clients who feel the same.
