I served as the team lead for a DoD customer in developing a software tool to improve the procurement process. The tool focuses on Intelligent Automation, and leverages machine learning, specifically natural language processing (NLP). Additionally, I worked with other DoD clients on varied data science and analytics projects.

The aim of my doctoral work was to make advanced combustion more controllable. More specifically, I developed control-oriented models for spark-assisted compression ignition (SACI). To achieve this, I built an engine test stand and for a modern production gasoline engine. The engine was instrumented to record combustion data, and I installed a programmable engine control module and developed the control algorithms to operate the high-feature engine. The data from this engine as used to validate engine models which served as the foundation for the advanced control and modeling techniques. In addition to physics-based models, these techniques include several regression machine learning models to rapidly and accurately predict combustion phenomenon. The models I developed maintained ~90% accuracy at a fraction of the computational cost.

In addition to my project management and engineering responsibilities, I managed a group of engineers in the Spark-Ignited Engine R&D section. I participated in and led day-to-day section management tasks.I also led a major technical task of HEDGE, a joint-industry consortium program. The focus was on a particular strategy to achieve aggressive fuel efficiency and emissions targets.

I supported and led a series of single-client technical projects. As project engineer, I was often responsible for all technical aspects of project work including designing test matrices, operating engine dynamometers, evaluating the combustion performance of prototype engines, data analysis, and performing 1-D simulation using GT-Power.As project manager, I participated and led regular communication with domestic and international clients, including both project reports and promotional work to secure new work.

In addition to the tasks and responsibilities I had as the engineering intern, I was directly responsible for managing the development of products. My focus was on products in the measurement and hydration products. I ensured that new products met functional and cost requirements, and developed solutions to quality issues with existing products.I gained direct experience with mass production manufacturing methods such as injection molding, sheet metal forming, and casting.

My primary focus as engineering intern was lifecycle product testings. I designed and fabricated microcontroller-based test machines to quantify product performance. These test machines ranged from those rapidly designed and fabricated using only available materials to more elaborate machines that were designed in SolidWorks and required machined components and an array of sensors and actuators.I created or modified CAD models of products and prototypes using SolidWorks or Pro/Engineer to support the product engineering team.I was also responsible for the supervision and maintenance of the OXO laboratory, where fabrication and testing are performed.
