Profile bio

About Dennon Audette

I am a mechanical engineer concentrating on mechanical design of electro-mechanical assemblies. I often work with electrical engineers to design assemblies with an emphasis on size, weight, cost, and durability for military use. Other responsibilities include root cause analysis to define and solve issues with current products, improving designs and fixtures to assist manufacturing operations or product testing. While working as a wrecker operator in the Marine Corps, I had to quickly assess how to best use my tools to get the job done. This often involved quickly estimating the tension forces in my pulley systems to pull a truck out of a ditch or moment forces affecting the boom crane on my truck to lift heavy loads. In my spare time, I learned from others and taught myself everything I could about the heavy-duty vehicles the Marine Corps used that could help me do my job better. I learned how automatic transmissions, alternators, and other components on my truck worked. It was this work that really got me interested in the science of mechanical engineering and led me here today.I graduated from UMass Lowell with a 3.84 GPA. During my time there I tested my knowledge by working with several extracurricular projects in my spare time. With one of these projects, I assisted in the design of a testing frame and harness to collect data on the forces required for a person to maintain balance. Using this information we created a prototype of an active posture correcting vest and won 2nd place in the UMass Lowell Difference Maker Competition.
