I've been dealing with maps since I can remember. From my childwood scouting to the years of firefighting volunteer service, "science of where" was always a field of interest i've been developing through the years. I started my academics studying emergency management and it was during this period I first met GIS, a field of expertise that I would choose as the center of my academic and professional evolution. Joining Portuguese Air Force in 2010, I had the incredible opportunity to ally my emergency management background to my recently acquired GIS knowledge, working for the next five years on search and rescue (SAR) operations. Under this activity, I concluded my masters degree, on the subject "The use of GIS for maritime SAR operations". In order to keep connected to the Air Force I added the Air Traffic Control to my skills and after four years working as an air traffic controller and team manager, applying GIS to the aerodrome management, I get back exclusively to the maps and charts business, now leading the GIS Service of Portuguese Air Force ATC Department. The last few years have been an amazing experience, since I was given the chance to develop and work on several GIS projects and get deeper and deeper on the "mapping expertise", trying every single day to improve my skills on the wide range of geographic subjects, such as webgis, remote sensing, land surveying, charting, geoint, spatial data science, among many many others.
