Deon Wessels is an Independent Consultant with 27 years’ experience of which 20 years specializing in Social Performance. Deon is guiding companies around the world to improve social performance, which include amongst others integrated social risk and impact management, local content and social investment. Deon is known for his intelligent and creative presentation of data and his unique and powerful ways of mapping benefits, impacts and risks. He is widely experienced in shared value creation, social impact measurement, corporate social investment and stakeholder engagement. He has carried out numerous social due diligence assessments, socio-sustainability assurance audits and third party supplier audits across Africa. Other focus areas include local economic development, human rights and gender equity, labour working conditions and social mine closure.Deon previously worked for ERM where he coordinated the Social Performance Technical Community of the EMEA Region and played a leading role in ERM’s social capital valuation and impact measurement services. Deon is recognized as an expert in the area of social performance particularly in social impact measurement and the socio-economic aspects of Mine Closure. Since September 2018 Deon has been working with Anglo American Projects, as a full-time contractor, in managing the Social Performance requirements of the Future of Mogalakwena Project Portfolio.Formerly a geologist, Deon is a graduate of the UFS and earned an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch Business School (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accredited). He is WBCSD Leadership Program Alumni.
