Responsible for financial accounting and ad-hoc activities at this film and TV production services company and its payroll company.• Automated month-end invoice processing, bank reconciliations, journals, and EMP and VAT return filings, using scripting, Power Automate, and Excel VBA/Macros. (E.g. invoice processing into Pastel can take up to 2 minutes per invoice; automated so dozens of invoices get captured in mere seconds.)• Reduced multiday processes to mere hours via above automations, availing time for more-involved tasks like management reports for the parent company, budgets, cash-flow analyses, tax calculations, preparing and collating information for B-BBEE verification, secretarial, liaising with auditors during annual audits, etc.• Lead the digitisation of independent crew contracts via the use of Microsoft Forms, SharePoint, Power Automate, and PowerApps – eliminating data-capturing, saving time, and resulting in more accurate data for the payroll team.• Assisting with DTIC film rebate applications and submissions

Reel Pay – the payroll company within Moonlighting Films• Responsible for creating payroll summaries from crew timesheets received from productions, process into VIP Payroll, and subsequently generating the banking file and releasing payment.• Created a database of all crew; designed a user form to search, check and update their details (with various data validations in place); added a one-click button which create a new crew upload template for VIP Payroll. A process that previously took five minutes to manually complete, was cut down to a couple of seconds.• Created a user form that resembles a timesheet, all on one screen and with clickable buttons which then automatically fill in data onto the spreadsheet – vastly reduced time on the processing of timesheets.

My duties included:• Collecting daily timesheets on set; being a friendly face and building a rapport with crew members to help make the arduous task of completing their timesheets less of a chore for them.• Timesheet capturing; processing each previous day’s times in a timely manner to report the daily ‘hot costs’ as soon as possible to the financial controller.• Generating weekly timesheets from the daily times and summarising it into a report for the payroll company to process for payment.• Designing more efficient workflows for all the above.• Being trusted with a hefty sum of cash for crew per diems and ensuring every cent was accounted for during and after handing them out during the out-of-town on-location shoot days.
