In this position, I work with specialized teams/cells to update and standardize the content, layout, and format of existing medical device labeling components to get them compliant for the FDA. FDA is establishing a unique device identification system to adequately identify medical devices through their distribution and use. When fully implemented, the label of most devices will include a unique device identifier (UDI) in human- and machine-readable form. Device labelers must also submit certain information about each device to FDA’s Global Unique Device Identification Database (GUDID). I am working within the Critical Care business unit, doing a number of tasks, to ensure these labels are able to meet these specifications. -

This effort entailed defining space constraints, and the positioning of new and existing icons and barcoding information while maintaining readability of all labeling.
