As a medical scribe in the Emergency Department for CHSB, I document patient medical histories and other relevant information for the physicians and physician assistants to better assess and treat these patients. I assist the providers by keeping their EMR organized and helping them see a larger volume of patients by decreasing the time they spend writing their own charts. When time permits, I relay messages between the health staff and do what I can to make the patients' stays more comfortable.

The main goal of EMRA is to assist physicians with various clinical research projects, including some on abdominal CTs, acute respiratory distress syndrome, diverticulitis, whole blood transfusions, and cardiovascular health. We train on proper protocol regarding personal health information and study procedures, read patient charts, talk about our studies with eligible patients, collect data, and input data into a secure database for further analysis. We also take quizzes about our studies. As an EMRA, I have had extensive practice handling human products and speaking with patients.Project Details:· Participated in research to determine whether hematocrit procedures were useful in evaluating occult blood loss (principal investigators were Dr. William Mower and Vikas Shahi)· Currently researching acute respiratory distress syndrome, criteria for restrictive CT use in abdominal blunt traumas, impacts of diverticulitis and its treatments on patient living, development of screening methods for cardiovascular disease involving correlations between facial features, and evaluations of whole blood transfusion vs. component therapy (various principal investigators, including Dr. William Mower, Dr. David Schriger, Dr. Martin Cadeiras)

As an undergraduate assistant for Dr. Laurence Lavelle, my job was to hold additional office hours and exam review sessions to supplement Dr. Lavelle's lectures as well as the graduate teaching assistants' discussions and office hours. I was also responsible for monitoring the Chemistry Community web forum to answer students' questions regarding course material whenever I did not have office hours, and I proctored the midterm and final exams for the course. To qualify for the position, all undergraduate students must have received an A- or higher in all their general and organic chemistry courses, including labs.

While working at Dr. Sunny Wong's clinic, I assisted with organizing patient charts, creating appointments, contacting patients, and checking insurance. I also wrote authorizations for specialist and radiology services and corresponded with outside lab and pharmaceutical services.

At Premier Academy, my primary responsibility was to oversee classrooms for their after-school tutoring service. I tutored children from kindergarten to high school age on any homework questions they had and assigned them problems of appropriate grade level if they had no homework to complete. I checked off any completed assignments in logs that the students were required to fill out, but if any misdemeanors occurred, I had the authority to carry out disciplinary action to keep the classrooms in order.
