Long term contract engagement developing embedded software for a connected life savingmedical device from prototype through to formal FDA submission of the final product.I was responsible for co-ordinating the design, implementation and integration of the devicesoftware. The system consists of multiple microcontrollers with software specified by hundreds of requirements including a comprehensive security strategy which I had part in designing.I managed the software releases and configuration management strategy, planning deliverables from the three software teams and external vendors to deliver on time and fully integrated releases that complied with the IEC 62304 medical device software standard. As part of this I implemented numerous process improvements to increase team efficiency.I had direct responsibility for the day to day management of the primary software development team. Resource management, agile planning and risk management. My role included liaising with multiple disciplines in the organisation including Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Compliance and to providing consistent understandable SW program update to the upper management.

This involved pre tape-in software validation of SoC's peripheral’s on FPGA emulated images of the the Quark X1000 SoC and through to completion as part of the power-on team. This process required hardware debugging using OpenOCD/GDB and Logic Analysers.I continued writing and designing Linux device drivers for subsequent Intel SoCs. I was part of the team that designed and released the Intel Galileo - an Arduino compatible maker device.We then moved into the MCU space where I was a key team member involved in writing a fully opensource HAL for Intel Quark MCU products, the Quark SE Microcontroller C1000 and D2000 (https://github.com/quark-mcu/qmsi) . This HAL was developed from scratch and I was responsible for the bare metal drivers and example applications for RTC, WDT, MPR and I2C. Recently my attention has turned towards the process of rapidly starting a project and producing sustainable and predictable results. This has included leveraging well defined project infrastructure such an source control (GIT), Continuous Integration, Unit Testing and Integration testing.I also designed and ran a training program to acquire new talent and develop college interns/graduates into fully contributing team members quickly and efficiently. This also included running workshops at universities and schools to help identify talent.
