Employed as a member of the Marketing team the role was to analyse the company’s performance based on retail sales, transactional and basket data, analyse the effectiveness of marketing campaigns as well as identifying the impacts of market trends and competitor activities.In this role, Derek provided key reports to inform internal stakeholders of business performances enabling discussions in sales and business strategies. This included insights into major competitor’s focuses/strategies based on the grocery categories.Derek developed and implemented a template for marketing campaigns to measure the effectiveness and ROI, which provided recommendations to brand and campaign managers on running future campaigns.

Employed as a member of the national merchandise team the role was to manage and maintain the company’s product database ensuring all details are accurate and up-to-date. In this role, Derek works with key buyers and branch managers to identify discontinued and poor performing products leading to reductions in warehouse overstocks and shrinkage. Provided recommendations to buyers on stock allocations to ensure profitability is maximised for each branch and minimal overstocks.Derek has also strengthened cross department/pillar relationships and as a result faster turn around by the data entry department in processing paperwork into the product database - reducing the processing time from 5 days to 3 days.

Employed as a member of the claims resolution team the role was to facilitate Metcash’s suppliers with the claims resolution process and their queries. Derek assisted with development of the Access database logging system for disputed claims, which resulted in an increase of 30% of claims accurately logged, monitored and settled. This also lead to a reduction in customer complaints as it provided suppliers with live details on the progress of the claims within the resolution process.Seconded to the Trading Terms department to assist with resolving outstanding claims, which resulted in the business retrieving $5 million.Created and implemented a guide for logging claims and processing paybacks to assist new staff members – reducing the number of mistakes and also reducing the amount of time required for management or current staff members to train the new recruits.
