My responsibilities as a field tech with Blue Leaf Environmental have included the process of acquiring and tagging adult chinook salmon and predatory species including smallmouth bass and pikeminnow, deployment/interrogation/collection of data loggers, fish ladder monitoring, and water quality sampling.

Blue Leaf has long been involved in the collection of data regarding the passage and success rate of salmon and steelhead smolt during their travels through the Grant County stretch of the Columbia River. With focus on their passage of Wanapum and Priest Rapids dam. As a data tech, I have searched through hours upon hours of this data, tracking these fish while also determining their passage route of choice and also whether or not they were successful at passing the two dams mentioned above.

Suncadia has a lot to offer. So when the cold weather rolls in, they typically can find ways to keep you busy. No one wants to chase a white golf ball in the snow anyway. Starting out as a greens keeper, most guys get thrown into the bunkers. But it wasn't long before I was handed the opportunity to get on all sorts of different machines to try my hand at cutting grass. Sounds simple enough. But you'd be surprised. If you're not fast and accurate with them, back to the bunkers you go. Since leaving the sand, I've driven just about every machine you can find on a typical golf course. Even the occasional opportunity to hop on a dozer and move some soil. The end of the season typically brings all sorts of jobs. Picking up equipment around the course, preparing the course for winter, and cleaning all the machines before being put away for the next season. If you're willing to stick around for more work, they usually offer a variety of positions. My two winters with Suncadia have included work as a bell hop at the lodge, and also working the tubing hill and ice skating rink.

Working at Red's Fly Shop, I was given more responsibility than I ever could have expected. Typical fly shop duties included shop inventory, cash handling, customer service, and running shuttles. But also included anything from boat repair, to vineyard care or fixing a leaking roof! You name it, I probably did it.
