Technical Director for the specialist geotechnical contractor Keller UK which has an annual turnover of £70M.Professional skills include geotechnical analytical and design abilities, complemented by a thorough understanding of the influences that construction methods may have on final foundation performance. I directly lead a team of geotechnical designers who are responsible for the provision of design and engineering support to Keller UK covering all phases in the lifetime of a geotechnical project from initial feasibility and tender negotiations through to contract execution. Within this context my work on the development of standards and codes of practice keeps me up to date with current design methods and trends. Team development skills are highly important to enable me to discharge my responsibilities for the development of a technically strong and motivated team of geotechnical designers. The challenge is always how to do this within the demands of unrelenting timescales!!

Derek is currently responsible for the provision of technical support and design for Keller’s piling, retaining wall and ground improvement business, although he also has also worked for the Geotechnical Division of Keller undertaking the designs for a wide range of minipiling, anchoring, soil nailing and various grouting projects.

Leeds

Formally with Atkins, where he was Principle Geotechnical Engineer, Derek was based in Leeds undertaking geotechnical work in the rail, flood defence and general civil engineering fields

Wetherby

Completion of winning tender designs and timely production of contract design for a range of micro-piling, ground anchor, slope stabilisation and grouting contracts.
