In my new role as President of the Service Provider Business group at Sercomm, I lead the team in designing, building, and supporting advanced broadband technology solutions for our service provider customers. My focus is on fostering innovation and efficiency, ensuring we deliver reliable, cutting-edge products & services.

As President of Sercomm Technology, Derek was responsible for leading the subsidiary of Sercomm Corporation, which designs and manufactures broadband technology for many global Tier 1 and Tier 2 service providers. This included technologies such as 5G, DOCSIS, and PON. Under Derek's leadership, the subsidiary experienced significant growth, increasing its annual revenue from $300 million to a $1 billion annual run rate. Sercomm Corporation, listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE: 5388), had sales of approximately $1.27 billion in 2020.

Derek served on the Board of Directors of the Emma Bowen Foundation since June 2015 and also served on the board's Finance Committee and Technology Committee.The Emma Bowen Foundation was founded in 1989 to diversify the media industry by giving talented students of color the opportunity to intern at some of the nation’s leading media companies. During its 26-year history, the Emma Bowen Foundation has provided internships for almost 800 students of color, the majority of whom have gone on to have successful careers in the industry as producers, journalists, executives, and more.

Derek served as President, CEO, and Member of the Board of Directors for Concurrent, a company listed on the NASDAQ exchange (CCUR). He led the company from November 2014 until the successful sale of its operating units in December 2017. During Derek's tenure as CEO, Concurrent outperformed the TSR (total shareholder return) of both the Russell 3000 and GICS 4520 indexes over one and five year periods.

Zenverge was a technology company founded in 2006 in Silicon Valley. It was composed of experienced industry professionals with a history of developing advanced video compression algorithms, media processors, and network processors. Zenverge worked with leading service providers and consumer electronics manufacturers to bring innovative solutions to the market. In December 2014, Zenverge was sold to Freescale Semiconductor.

Derek served as the General Manager and P&L owner for the DOCSIS & Retail Business Unit at ARRIS, where he was responsible for overseeing product management, research & development, marketing, and operations for the unit, which generated over $1.1 billion in annual revenue. Under Derek's leadership, the business unit delivered over 15 million devices per year and maintained a #1 market share in cable modems, cable WiFi, and telephony gateways. Derek successfully grew the business unit both organically and inorganically, taking it from $380 million in 2010 to $1.1 billion in 2014. He also played a key role in the integration of the Motorola Surfboard product line after ARRIS acquired the Motorola Home division from Google in 2011.

Derek served as Senior Vice President of Product Management & Marketing for the largest division of ARRIS and had P&L responsibility for $850 million in annual revenue. The division was composed of three business units: the Touchstone EMTA/Cable Modem Business Unit (with $380 million in 2010 revenue), the C4 CMTS & E6000 CCAP Business Unit (a high-margin Broadband Edge Router business unit with $450 million in 2010 revenue), and the D5 Edge QAM Business Unit (a high-margin edge modulator business unit with $17 million in 2010 revenue).

As the leader of ARRIS's North American sales organization, Derek was responsible for managing over $1 billion in annual sales. After ARRIS acquired C-COR in 2007, Derek played a key role in reorganizing the North American sales organization, consolidating four separate sales units into a single cohesive unit. This required strong leadership and strategic planning skills, as well as the ability to effectively manage and motivate a large sales team.
