My passions are Progress, People and the Past. I have been privileged to work in innovative R&D for many years - ranging from space, climate change to life sciences with a recent focus on data, artificial intelligence and pushing the next frontier. Nothing is achieved without motivated, dynamic and collaborative leadership teams which I have great joy in building and mentoring. When relaxing my hobby is as an amateur historian, avidly reading what has shaped our world. I have considerable experience in executive leadership, business strategy, setting up organisational structures and advising, mentoring and coaching internal teams and individuals. Helping managers and senior technical staff to recognise their potential is fundamental. As founder of Flexible Executive Insights the objective is to provide that expertise in a flexible manner to suit the needs of typically small, growing, scientist/engineer led companies emerging from the high tech R&D domain and Space markets.Whilst Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Hybrid Intelligence, Capgemini Engineering I was responsible for the strategy and direction of our programmes, projects and technical staff. This encompasses our AI, data science and software services to clients in markets including commercial industries, life sciences, engineering, science and energy. I have previously worked in the scientific and aerospace domains for over 30 years and have a strong track record in providing leadership in business development, operations and financial/risk control. This has enabled me to develop an excellent overall understanding of technical systems and the associated business issues such as politics, costs, schedules and personnel matters. I was involved in space science, earth observation, telecoms and latterly in climate change services.I have been consulted by Industry, Government and Academia for advice on a variety of Space related matters through my representation on UKSpace Council (UK industry trade association), as Chair of UK Space Agency’s Earth Observation Advisory Committee and as a board member of the Institute of Environmental Analytics’ Governing Board. I am a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
