Built three brands: TracFone, Straight Talk and NET10. Hired and directed new ad campaigns from agencies The Martin Agency and Droga5 New York (and was their first AOR client). Engaged Carat and then Mediavest as media agencies. TracFone grew from #11 to #5 wireless provider during my tenure, with customer base increasing 500% and revenue 800%.The mission was to bring no-contract wireless to a far wider base of customers, which I did by deploying a very deep segmentation strategy, and figuring out ways to minimize wastage in media and creative so that we had more relevant, more creative, better researched, more targeted marketing than our competition. Big innovation was necessary to counteract the 20x bigger budgets of competitors, so a Big Data driven media campaign was deployed with analytical help from Millward Brown, Nielsen and Hudson River Group: disciplined ROI approach paid off. Part of the creative innovation was early adoption of brand video tools. Created long form videos to tell the brand story across multiple platforms: from network TV, national cable and social media supported online video to a close creative alliance with Walmart for in-store TV. TracFone was the fastest growing cell phone company in the US, and its Straight Talk brand is the fastest growing cell phone brand ever launched in the US. Launched highly successful campaigns for TracFone and Net10 by Droga5, winning Cannes Lion d'Or awards. Straight Talk campaign (by The Martin Agency), also highly successful. -
