From an early age, I have seen the joy that comes with learning something new. I grew up in a home where my dad loved to try new hobbies (and a LOT of them). My dad was very insightful to engage me and my siblings with several of these hobbies so that we could experience the joy of learning. I remember days spent trying rappelling, fishing, board games, scuba diving, shotgun shooting, and even land sailing (like small-boat sailing, but with wheels). His example inspired me to also learn things on my own such as playing guitar, starting lacrosse, and singing in choir. These early experiences taught me that I truly love learning!So, now, working as an engineering consultant, I still have this love of learning. Having a unique problem to solve keeps me excited as it provides a new opportunity to learn. Albert Einstein said “Once you stop learning, you start dying.” That quote is a powerful reminder to me to never pass on meaningful learning opportunities that will aid in my personal and professional growth. This is why I firmly believe that as I continue to learn (both related and unrelated to my career) that I will be better positioned to solve tomorrow’s problems and experience joy.
