For the first fourteen years of his legal career, Derek Howard worked in the Oakland County Circuit Court in widely varying areas of the law, including: general civil, criminal, appellate, family, adoption, and juvenile delinquency. In his final six years at the circuit court, Derek worked as a Judicial Staff Attorney in Oakland County's Business Court, concentrating on business litigation involving complex commercial, class actions, mergers/acquisitions, member and shareholder oppression, contract, fraud, and supply chain disputes.Derek has also completed 48 hours of SCAO-approved general civil mediation training and serves as a facilitator/mediator.Derek is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association. He is a past Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and actively involved with the Business Court and Counsel Committee.Between 2007 and 2019, Derek also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Western Michigan University's Cooley Law School - teaching three different legal research and writing classes.
