Growing up I dreamed of a career in music. But in college I was presented with opportunities that sparked more areas of interest. My first engineering classes emphasized the importance of focussing on the details of a task. Music also requires this as well as interpreting symbols on a page to produce a work of art. These experiences ignited a passion for technology and software development that led to my career in the IT industry.As a young software developer, I was fortunate to work on a strong team with experienced developers who fostered me and provided a solid foundation of coding practices that I would carry throughout my career.More recently, my roles as a software engineering manager and technical lead have provided me the opportunity to leverage my knowledge and share my experiences to help the team deliver quality software. I have had my share of good and bad managers over the years and I am always conscious to model the good behaviors I have witnessed.My approach to management is to encourage open and honest communication among the team to support a safe environment where everyone feels comfortable and wants to perform their best. I understand problems are going to happen. But I have learned a calm, less excitable and more “how are we going to handle this?” attitude leads to more positive results.I am seeking a software development/engineering manager position.
