In the past, Derek Java conducted CPS investigations for Washington County, NY. Derek often used his skills as an educator to connect with people in difficult situations, helping them to see a way through their difficulties and choose another path. Derek also trained social workers throughout New York State. He used adult education strategies to deliver high-caliber professional development to people working with the most disadvantaged in our society. Empathy and compassion are key in these roles.Prior to that, Derek taught college English to freshmen students at various community colleges in the Albany, NY area. Here he developed his teaching style and tool belt for 8 years. That industry lost a dedicated educator in passing him up for permanent placement. Currently, Derek teaches ELA at Whitehall Central School in upstate NY.
