About Derek Johnson

As a Professional Geoscientist in Training, I have had the opportunity to work in mining, hard rock exploration, oil and gas, and environmental consulting. Currently, I am a part of Rio Tinto's technical team at Diavik. Where I have worked as both a mine geologist and hydrogeologist.My background includes experience working as an exploration geologist with Rio Tinto and SSR Mining. During this time I was responsible for conducting geological mapping, geological modelling, core logging and completing soil sample grids. During my time as an Environmental Scientist, I acquired comprehensive experience in Phase I and II Environmental site assessments and was a first responder to oil spills.As a proactive, self-starter, I am always searching for the next opportunity where I may learn more about exploration geology through field work and long-term projects.
