I have done hours of research in the field of materials engineering which has given me a greater ability to solve problems and draw conclusions from data. During my research I set up an anodizing process to control variables as well as programing MATLAB code to analyze data collected from the SEM. This project was ultimately presented at the CIMM conference and drafted into a published research paper on improving heat transfer abilities of anodized aluminum. I have also worked for John Deere in capstone design which has given me group and professional experience. This project allowed us to design and build a model of the CH570 sugarcane harvester to aid in the development of their fluid computer simulations. From what I learned in my fluids class, I insured the proper scaling of the fan system through nondimensionalization of the flow field. This has given me confidence to work in groups on large projects. In the past year, I have taken Heat Transfer which has taught me the inner workings of pumps, heat sinks, and heat engines. I have also taken several material engineering classes; corrosion, material fiber analysis, SEM and XRD lab. The combination of these classes has given me increased knowledge of materials and how they interact in systems. I have also taken Fluid Dynamics, Manufacturing Processes, and Machine Design which I believe has added to my skills to be able to operate in a manufacturing setting. Lastly, I have good communication and leadership skills that were developed through becoming an Eagle Scout, along with being the founder of the LSU Sierra Club.
