He developed two implicit surface modeling methods to refine the geometry of imperfect 3D scattered data obtained from a 3D laser scanner. These methods were based on machine learning frameworks such as kernel methods, relevance vector machines, and unsupervised neural networks.At the Industrial Technology Research Institute, Dr. Lai contributed to two long-term projects centered around turbomachines and high-precision machining centers. His role involved the strategic development of industrial fluid bearings and the intricate design of their advanced lubrication systems.
