Derek Odney is a seasoned professional investigator and manager with deep international and litigation experience. Derek is an expert in investigating transnational crime, money laundering activities, and sanctions violations. He has mature professional and diplomatic skills as demonstrated by the successful management of numerous multinational investigative operations, many with significant national security concerns.Derek managed and developed investigation strategy for several transnational cases involving money laundering, and sanctions violations. He worked with OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) and other agencies regarding targeting and investigations across several of the sanctions programs including those involving narcotics, terrorism, Iran, Syria, Libya, Burma, Charles Taylor, and the Magnitsky Act. Derek has conducted investigations of IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act) violations and was part of the litigation team for multiple IEEPA, money laundering, and terrorism cases with the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). Derek's international experience includes assignments overseas in South and Southeast Asia for over six years; as an instructor/course developer at the DEA Training Academy, International Training Section; and with the DEA Special Operations Division, Narco-Terrorism Group. He has developed worldwide law enforcement and security sector experience and numerous contacts. Derek has participated in DEA operations or training programs conducted with law enforcement and security agency partners from over 100 countries worldwide.
