Derek, an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and Co-founder of Pre-Develop Archaeology Ltd., brings over three decades of expertise in contract archaeology. Additionally, he oversees three community excavation projects. A seasoned field archaeologist, Derek's extensive experience spans various historical periods and regions across Britain. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Archaeology from the University of Sheffield and has a proven track record in the construction industry.His specialisation in initial excavation and fieldwork surveys has been instrumental in providing comprehensive profiles that assist developers and building contractors in meeting their archaeological obligations. Derek’s deep understanding of both development and archaeological operations positions him as an expert to clients in the industry. In addition to managing the company’s daily operations, Derek compiles thorough landscape reports that encompass diverse facets of archaeological research and historic building surveys. In 2023, Derek set up Udig Archaeology Limited, which offers places on fully immersive research training excavations. During the summer of 2024, the team will be excavating at Stanwick Hall in Northamptonshire, a multi-phase Saxon to late post-medieval site.The research excavation will involve a ‘hands-on’ approach to learning all the basics of on-site archaeological processes, from excavation through to post-excavation, and an end-of-season report will be published on the findings.
