Senior Cloud Engineer
CurrentSenior cloud engineer is a newly implemented role @ Westjet. The key responsibility is evangelizing cloud migration and acting as a cloud advocate to help Westjet achieve it's IT performance/spend objectives. I am a ferocious advocate for industry standards like the 6 Pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework and Microsoft’s Azure Well-Architected Framework. Using my knowledge as a principal designer/architect of Westjets AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure, I move clients to the cloud, that's what I do. Westjet is multi cloud , Azure (by preference) and AWS (where necessary). My position requires a diverse background from game development to networking security that allows me to manage the entire life cycle of an applications cloud migration. This includes planning and re-designing applications. This role requires a firm grasp of emerging technologies, platforms, and applications, and ability to customize them to help our business become more secure, efficient and, by design, automated. This can include managing the project’s timeline, budget and team. Strong project management skills are needed to coordinate diverse internal development teams and external third-party day 2 support teams. Define, document and evangelize best practices and strategies regarding automated deployments and infrastructure maintenance. Provide guidance, thought leadership, and mentorship to development teams to build cloud competencies. I am passionate about knowledge transfer, I am the primary IT educator of vetted patterns and best practices regarding application performance, uptime, and scaling , maintaining high standards of code quality and automation of cloud resources.
