 Design, analysis, test, install and continue improving mechanical designs and housings for various disease diagnosis tools and various portable microscopes on phones using AutoDesk Inventor and collaborated with UCLA Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine departments for various applications, such as Lensfree microscopy on cellphone (2010), Portable detector of mercury in water (2014), DNA sizing on mobile (2014), Compact ELISA plate reader (ACS nano, 2015), Lyme Disease diagnostic tool (2019), Sickle cells microscope (2020), Early antimicrobial monitor (2021) and Diabetes point-of-care monitor (2022) Collaborate with biologists and chemists to identify their needs from vague ideas or concepts to complete design on a mechanical housing holding optical, mechanical and electrical components to detect or diagnose their chemical or bio samples. Continuously improve the user experience and device performance until the final product satisfies clients’ requirements or Federal requirements. Construct/design suitable electronic circuits (i.e. LED driver circuits with THT, SMD components, various optical sensors, connectors, wires and battery), soldering/assemble components and create suitable optical illumination for diagnostic instruments and microscopes. Conduct source selection on optical devices, such as choosing the lens, building optical fiber, and aligning the laser for imaging. Interact and work with the manufacturing source to produce suitable hardness for the finalized devices, measure and check the devices meet collaborators' or customers' requirements and write detailed assembly instructions and teach technicians to assemble the final products. Coordinate and develop test methods with scientists and software engineers to conduct various tests to ensure the final devices satisfy customers' needs and meet federal safety requirements Mentor 3 to 12 undergrads to perform various mechanical design tasks.

• Designing of advanced RDT readers with GD&T in mind using 3D CAD Design for Six Sigma methodology. Continuously improve the design, reduce production risk and cost, and improve device user experience based on engineering principles to clients’ satisfaction.• Working from initial evaluation designs through development stage, prototyping, testing with IQ, OQ and PQ methods to ensure that the final products are thoroughly monitored with assembly and exceed customers’ expectations/requirement. • Work, evaluate, manage and provide guidance to suppliers and manufacturers to build low-yield products with FDM, PolyJet and SLA 3D Printers or Urethane casting.
