Robotics Software Intern
During and immediately after my Senior year of undergraduate education, I worked as a robotics software intern at the Utah office of Scientific Systems Co. Inc. (SSCI). I worked on various projects, including the DARPA Subterranean Challenge and developing a drone/canine teaming solution for search and rescue applications. I developed skills in robotic autonomy, especially SLAM, as well as mechatronics and project management. Thanks to Neil Johnson for being a wonderful supervisor and mentor.
Research Intern
In the summer of 2019 I participated in the Global Campus program at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Moscow, Russia. I completed an internship in the Intelligent Space Robotics Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Dzmitry Tsetserukou. I supported research in haptics and drone swarm operation. Specifically, I implemented micro-quadcopters as controllers for robotic systems and virtual reality applications. The internship was a wonderful learning opportunity for me, as I was able to deepen my experience and skills with the Robot Operating System (ROS) and Python development. Additionally, I gained invaluable experience in completing independent work that applied to the larger project being completed in the lab.
Teaching Assistant - Dynamic System Modelling
In the Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 academic semesters I was a teacher's assistant for ME EN 335: Dynamic System Modelling. I helped students learn the principles of modelling mechanical, electrical, and fluidic dynamic systems using lumped parameter techniques. Additionally, I helped students learn to use MATLAB to perform their analyses.
Manufacturing Engineering Intern
As a manufacturing engineering intern at BD Medical, I supported the manufacturing process to increase output and improve efficiency. I worked on several projects, including:- Commission and validate new automation equipment. The new equipment allowed the plant to double production of a particular sub component in preparation for the installation of a new manufacturing line. - Test and implement new components on existing automation. One design that I worked on reduced manufacturing scrap by 78% at one station.- Design an electronic test stand for use in training equipment maintenance personnel. My design was fabricated in-house at a cost of $5,000 less than a similar commercially available product. Four stands were required, making the total savings $20,000.- Statistical analysis of manufacturing performance to inform decision making in the department. In this position I developed skills in project management, manufacturing principles, automation design and maintenance, and data analytics.
Research Assistant
As a research assistant in the mechanical engineering department at Brigham Young University, I worked in the BYU Engineering Systems Design Lab under the direction of Dr. John Salmon to develop autonomous and electric vehicle systems. Methods included agent-based modelling and socioeconomic modelling to determine where charging stations can be optimally located as an urban area switches to autonomous vehicles.
Teaching Assistant - Computational Methods
During the Fall 2017 academic semester I was a teacher's assistant for ME EN 273: Computational Methods and CAE. In this position I helped students learn and practice the basics of C++ programming and to apply those skills to numerical analysis. I also helped the students apply those same skills to MATLAB programming.
Lead Engineering Intern
As the lead engineering intern, I coordinated my work with the work of four other interns to productively and effectively deliver results as we developed the requirements for a new product.
Engineering Intern
As an engineering intern at App Raptors, I worked with an interdisciplinary team of engineers and interns to identify the proper components and materials to be used in a new market product. I also completed market research to identify pain points and gaps in service.
Quality Assurance Manager
As Quality Assurance Manager, my responsibilities included ensuring the cleanliness and organization of both a grocery store and a restaurant in order to provide both customers and employees with a fun and enjoyable experience. I hired and supervised a minimum of ten employees at a time to fulfill this responsibility.
Project Management Intern
I interned for a tech entrepreneur to discover a market need, validate an idea for a new web application, and create mockups of a website to prepare for development.
