Headhunted to significantly expand Barclays presence in Scotland and Ireland. Had Executive responsibility for Barclays Ventures, the mid market venture capital business. Member of the Global Commercial Banking Board and a top 100 Executive of the Global Retail and Commercial Banking Division. Created 3 additional business teams in Scotland and hired 40 revenue generators.

Initially MD Corporate and Commercial Banking Scotland with Executive responsibility for 330 Employees in 18 locations across Scotland, managing 7000 customer relationships. In July 2004, became MD, Commercial Banking UK with Executive responsibility for 2600 employees based in 157 locations across the UK managing 60k customer relationships. Commercial Banking was the largest business unit in the Corporate Banking and Financial Markets Division with income in excess of £1.2bn. Chairman of Corporate Banking Credit Committee with authority to sanction up £500m of lending (subject to credit rating)

Established profitable relationships with number of US parents or subsidiaries of existing UK customers. Following takeover of NatWest, had responsibility for integration of the offices of both banks.
