Derek Barnes has decades of trading, data, operations, & system design experience offering a unique strategy & business architecture skillset.Derek was recruited by Midwest Holding Inc (NASDAQ: MDWT) in 2021 to collaborate with cross-functional teams & address complex operational technology challenges. Through a commitment to accountability & effective communication between business users & developers, he successfully laid the groundwork for an enterprise-wide Hub & Spoke information system. This system enabled scalable & efficient solutions, ultimately transforming the struggling American Life & Security Corp carrier & the registered investment advisor 1505 Capital LLC. This transformation paved the way for the marketing & sale of MDWT to Antarctica Capital, LLC.In the summer of 2018 Derek joined Nassau Financial Group to lead the construction of an Investment Operations as a service Team. This new operations group services all related party affiliates & their management of multiple CT & NY Insurance Company assets.In January 2014 Derek joined Security Benefit Corporation as an original member of a six-person investment in-sourcing team. Derek was part of the leadership group contributing to the complete reconstruction of front, middle, & back office investment infrastructure that included build out of trading, enterprise data warehouse, & reporting systems for a $25 billion insurance asset portfolio & $18 billion annuity portfolio.Before joining Security Benefit, Derek managed the operations as COO at top ranked Fixed Income / Relative Value hedge fund, Barnegat Fund Management, from 2006 to 2013. Derek focused on supporting global FI / RV investments & was successful in the development of trading strategies, capital raising, design & implementation of investment models & analysis.Previously Derek was an equity trader at Deutsche Bank Securities from 1999 to 2006, where he was the only 5th generation member of the New York Stock Exchange since the Buttonwood Agreement was signed in 1792. Prior to Deutsche Bank, Derek began his career in 1995 as a Front Line Specialist Trading Assistant for Webco Securities.Derek Barnes is also an angel investor in Hudson Harvest (www.hv-harvest.com), working to change the food system. The company works directly with farms to provide local, traceable, transparent food of the highest quality to consumers.Derek holds a BA from Gettysburg College where he majored in Business Management & Economics. He is married with two daughters & one son & is an avid golfer, distance runner & IronMan triathlete.
