It is a restart of Storspeed, replacing custom hardware with a FreeBSD-based, multi-Core x86 server platform and delivering 30+ Gbps of read throughput and 1.1 million IOPS.CacheIQ was acquired by Netapp in 2012.• Lead product architect, guiding product and technical requirements and architecture for the team. Served as the technical liaison for all due diligence throughout the entire acquisition process.• Served in a lead architectural role driving product architecture. Worked closely with product marketing to define product requirements• Individually architected and developed the CIQ Storage Tier components. Each component is made up of a user-space app, user-space library and kernel driver. Components include:• A Storage Manager responsible for managing DRAM and SSD caching resources for priority aware, multi-tenant caching of customer data. Provides the NFS Metadata server with a file extent-based Read, Write, and Invalidate API.• A Block Aggregation Layer that coalesces blocks into larger disk IOs to improve performance and SSD lifetime.• A Replacement Cache Layer, providing an abstraction for pluggable caching algorithms to be used by the Storage Manager. The custom hardware included the RMI XLR732 NPU and the Fulcrum Micro FM4224 L2/3 Switch.• Member of the initial engineering team, contributing to the architecture of the Storspeed Appliance.• Networking lead responsible for architecture and implementation of Storspeed's networking components.• Ported and customized the FreeBSD network stack to the XLR732 MIPS64 NPU, integrating with available hardware offloads such as packet parsing, RX/TX checksum offload, flow classification, flow identification, network flow to processing core affinity.• Developed a configuration-less routing layer substitute, the dynamic flow path subsystem, that enabled the network stack to use the correct L2 network paths when transparently proxying customer traffic.• Developed a flow balancing layer to load balance network receive processing across processing cores.• Designed and implemented a clustered L2 Topology Discovery Engine responsible for mapping the customer network via ARP. The discovery engine maintained a residency map of network endpoints (IP, MAC) to their Top of Rack ingress port.• Inherited responsibility for leading development of the dataplane OS (XOS). Specific OS development areas included: Dataplane OS and Linux NetIF drivers for the RMI Network Accelerator, Memory Management subsystem. Provided technical leadership of linux kernel and application development.• Led the design and development of a kernel network driver providing L3–L7 virtual host emulation, commonly known as a honeypot.• Co-developed the packet-processing engine responsible for processing mirrored network traffic. This kernel driver supported a wide variety of L2 and L3 networking environments and provided ARB-based endpoint state tracking, L2 virtualization, and ARP-based endpoint isolation. IPC messaging between network interfaces was used to eliminate duplicate identical mirrored frames and to determine endpoint “ownership” in order to reduce redundant ARP management.• Extensive experience with Ethernet switching and enterprise L2 network deployments. Acquired significant experience configuring L2/L3 switches from Cisco and Extreme.• Co-developed a user space, multi-threaded Threat Assessment Engine providing L4 network flow state tracking and network anomaly behavioral detection. • Architected and developed the Network Access Control Engine within the NAC product.
