During my internship with KPMG I was assigned to an anti-money-laundering banking investigation. It was my job to review account transactions which had been flagged for suspicious activity, perform a thorough investigation, and decide whether or not to file a report with the government.In that role, I became the team (40 people) expert on the bank's legacy systems. As the expert, I was constantly providing support to the team.One of the systems we used was built in the early 80's, and it took forever to manipulate the data and document our findings. Seeing an opportunity for improvement, I requested permission to find a better way to access the data. My request was granted, and I wrote a program in VB to dump all the data into Excel.My program changed a 15-minute process which was performed 8 times a day into a 3-minute process, saving an hour an a half per worker per day.
