• Verification of compliance of plants and animals, their products, and agricultural inputs, through inspection and evaluation of these items and of associated facilities to promote consumer protection, safe food and market access. Provides advice and guidance to consumers, other government departments and industry clients.• Evaluates the compliance of imported products and ensures that non-compliant products are removed from the country, destroyed or that other acceptable action is taken.• Assesses products and facilities, prepares and issues export certificates or documents according to international standards or bilateral trade agreements.• Inspects domestically produced commodities, participates in investigations in response to program concerns and public complaints to ensure compliance to regulations. Inspections may take place in production areas, processing, manufacturing or distribution facilities. Products may include food, fertilizer, seeds, feeds, plants, animals and their products. Initiates appropriate follow-up activity.• Collects and prepares samples from production, processing and distribution areas for subsequent laboratory analysis to test for residues, disease agents and contaminants in food products, animals or plants.• Provides industry clients, other government departments and the public with information on and clarification of Canadian and international regulatory and policy requirements.
