Key developer for Siemens ONT (Optical Network Terminal) Development (from the ground up). ● Wrote the initial start up code and boot loader (Wintegra MIPS 5k).● Created development environment with GNU tools, bash scripts (under cygwin).● Modified the GDB simulator build to allow VxWorks Simulation.● Created download format that allowed flexible packaging of field upgrades. This was the subject of Siemens patent applications: WO2006003177 A2, CN101002172 A, EP1761848 A2. This allowed small network entities like the ONT to extract the image parts they needed without the need to store the entire package in memory.Other projects included the Accession Remote DSLAM (from the ground up) and line cards to allow their DCO product to support ISDN. A few highlights:● Wrote Initial start up code for an 80386ex based T1 Controller● Wrote FLASH drivers for 8 different targets● Wrote an Embedded Telnet Server● Wrote the Crash Dump Handler● Wrote a utility for debugging that decoded the VxWorks debug data and displayed internal structures on the target via FTP. The core of a debugger. This was useful since our codebase was too large and the VxWorks tools at the time had size limitations.

I was one of three original developers of their MSC­24 (Mobile Switching Center). The MSC­24 used a distributed multiprocessor architecture. A PC based controlling computer (from Ziatech) using QNX communicates serially with to up to 12 embedded 80186 based line cards.● Initial programmer on the line cards (brought up CPU circuits and TDM backplane).● Wrote all the code for the first two line cards (T1 Card and switching matrix).● While Assisting in hardware design I saved 20 percent of the cost of the platform (within first two weeks of employment)● Developed most of the hardware and operating systems interfaces under QNX (on the Ziatech PC)● Developed the Fault Processing Systems for the QNX PC and slave computers● Developed the OA&M interfaces for the QNX PC and slave computers● Designed and Implemented many key parts of the Redundancy system (my design change, allowed removal of an expensive dual memory card).The line cards were highly optimized from a performance perspective. No operating system with almost all functionality coded directly into the interrupt handlers. The T1 controllers were acting as communication multiplexers for out of band signalling and also handling the in band signalling bits with relatively small crude FIFOs. The 20% cost savings came from optimizing the interrupt handler assembly language that allowed a costly FPGA to be removed with the job done by the software.

Rastek's printer controllers were essentially complete microcomputers with a real­time multitasking operating system.Primary responsibility at Rastek was the development and maintenance of any code that directly accessed the hardware on their 68000/68020 based controller. Modified or wrote from scratch the code to drive these interfaces:● Developed Video interface for the print engine (DMA and FIFO variants)● Developed Status interface for the print engine (interrupt­ driven serial status)● Developed Panel interface (interrupt ­driven keys, display manipulated by registers)● Developed Serial and Parallel interfaces (Zilog 8530 & 8536 with 7120 FIFO)Development Platform Maintenance ­ Rastek uses CrossCode C and Freeform to do source level debugging on their controller. Was responsible for modifying/maintaining all the facilities needed for supporting this environment. My tasks included:● Wrote a utility for high speed parallel download of the program image to the controller. This program reduced the download time by a factor of 10.● Made modifications to the PALs used for address decoding to allow access to more memory. ● Hardware Debugging Assistance. The nature of my responsibilities required me to identify, isolate and occasionally fix hardware problems with the controller.
