I am a technical leader, design engineer, and project manager with over a decade of experience developing products that improve the human condition. I most recently served as Director of Product Engineering at FORM, where I led a team in delivering smart swim goggles with AR features. Previously I served as a Principal Engineer at MistyWest where my projects ranged from a handheld underwater rescue device to a medical diagnostic platform built to identify pre-eclampsia in pregnant women in remote areas. Beyond my day to day work, I have also contributed as an engineer for a non-profit that built the world's first all-electric, two-story tall, wearable, human piloted racing mech that won the CES 2017 Editor’s Choice Award.I have expertise and interests in strategic planning for R&D, leading mechanical design and prototyping, managing hardware product teams, and guiding stakeholders through technological risks. I approach technical problems from first principles and use data-informed decisions to bring clarity and focus to teams. Outside of engineering, I host the Solve For Luck podcast which shares career stories of interesting and successful professionals in the tech industry to help others learn from their journeys. I also enjoy meditation, film photography, and triathlon.

Director Of Product EngineeringForm Apr 2021 - Oct 2023Vancouver, Bc, CaFORM builds smart swim goggles with a built-in see-through AR display that help triathletes become better swimmers. I was promoted as FORM’s first Product Engineering Director to manage cross-functional teams and product features for the Smart Swim AR Goggles with responsibility for scope, managing resources and milestones, technology strategy, timelines, and NPI activities (tooling, EVT, DVT). My project portfolio spans next gen product architecture, sensor research, design, tooling, engineering validation testing, and optomechanical integration.Highlights: • Drove development of second gen FORM Smart Swim Goggles from tooling trials to completion of validation testing. Currently leading program management, R&D, design, and prototyping for third gen FORM Smart Swim Goggles.• Led efforts to deliver a waterproof integrated optical biosensor (planned for future release) that features a two-shot optical lens, integrated flexible circuit, and silicone overmolding. Served as project manager for a seven-member team and led feasibility studies, R&D, vendor selection, prototype tooling trials, field validation, and efforts to move project from R&D to commercialization.• Initiated new planning models that define product stage gates for all programs to help clarify tasks, roles, responsibilities, stakeholder sign-off requirements, schedule, and roadmapping for current and new products. • Developed novel testing equipment for anti-fog initiatives, led numerous field trial evaluations, and qualified and approved a new coating for product use.• Oversaw ergonomic and hydrodynamic studies, and developed novel face scanning tool chain to evaluate new goggle shapes and geometries.• Spearheaded efforts to design, procure, and install a new product development and digital fabrication lab.• Launched a new internship program and hired/managed eight students. -
Senior Product Design ManagerForm Apr 2019 - Apr 2021Vancouver, Bc, CaI initially joined FORM during stealth mode as employee ~30 to own and manage a portfolio of technical projects and perform detailed mechanical design and R&D for the Smart Swim Goggles product. Responsibilities included part specifications, CAD drawings, vendor relations, soliciting DFM and quotes, tooling cycles, FAI reports, QC documentation, and part approvals. -
Principal EngineerMistywest Oct 2015 - Oct 2018Vancouver, Bc, CaMistyWest is a product development firm that acts as the bridge from lab to assembly line for intelligent and connected devices. I joined the founding team as their first hire to support mechanical engineering needs and grew to expanded roles that spanned overall strategy and vision, project management, HR, and partnerships. During my tenure I contributed to 70+ projects as revenues grew 20x.I served as project manager for multiple concurrent workstreams, managed product development lifecycles, owned client relationships, and oversaw resource planning and staff allocation. I was also a member of the hiring committee and the interview lead for ~25 hires, and ran the intern program. My engineering responsibilities included CAD design, top-down modeling, rapid prototyping, motion studies, and linear static stress FEA analysis.Project Highlights:• Intel Labs - Account manager/project manager for development of a volumetric display that used novel techniques to render a floating 3D light image to help Intel explore next gen compute and display technologies. • Microsoft Premonition - Served as lead mechanical engineer for research prototypes of robotic smart traps that continuously lure, identify, and collect mosquitoes. • Vodasafe - Account manager/project manager/mechanical engineer for development of an advanced underwater sonar scanner for human rescue and recovery. • LGT-Medical - Project manager/lead mech designer for a medical diagnostic platform intended to help identify pre-eclampsia in pregnant women in remote areas. -
Technical Project ManagerMistywest Dec 2013 - Oct 2015Vancouver, Bc, CaFacilitated collaboration and communication between our internal technical team and clients, driving innovation and delivering high-quality projects. With a focus on efficient project management, I managed schedules, budgets, and contractors for up to four projects simultaneously, each involving a team of up to 6 engineers, designers, and developers. -
Mechanical Design EngineerMistywest Nov 2011 - Dec 2013Vancouver, Bc, CaSpecialized in designing novel hardware technologies, taking them from concept to low-volume production of under 1,000 units. I was responsible for creating large SolidWorks assemblies, often utilizing multilevel skeletons to optimize designs. My expertise in prototype engineering and 3D printing allowed me to rapidly develop proof of concept ideas and bring them to life.
