I was responsible for all system design and technology strategy on a community communication product (iSiKewl). I designed the product and managed all design and system engineering, including communication directly with the development team, to meet the objectives of the client and directors.

I started a business with a partner and my responsibility included all technical aspects of the business. I focused on strategic technology direction, project management, system engineering and system analysis with new clients. I designed and developed numerous systems including a mobile platform-based art selling system. The development implementation was outsourced to a local group of developers.

South Africa

eMD Technologies developed and sold software packages for the medical industry, running on Lotus Domino. I joined a newly formed R&D department as an architect to design and develop new systems as well as add functionality to existing systems. Their largest customer-facing system was their medical practice management package. On this particular project I created an add-on system to track patients’ clinical records which I integrated into the existing patient database running on Lotus Notes. I designed a web-based system that auto-generated forms using XML and XSLT from the Lotus Domino engine and also added functionality to the existing system. I assisted with server administration and was the client’s interim IT Manager for 9 months while they searched for a permanent employee. This role included managing a team of developers across multiple disciplines and being responsible for all IT Systems.

I joined EDS as a Lotus Domino Administrator. I moved into Lotus Domino development shortly thereafter and supported existing systems as well as development of new systems. I was transferred internally to the EDS head office where I worked on several Lotus Domino systems for various clients. I developed a Ticket System as well as an Intranet system that was used for several clients. EDS formed a Solution Centre to run their application delivery business from one division. Due to my team’s success, I was made team leader of the new Domino Team, responsible for all clients running Lotus Domino in South Africa. After being exposed to numerous clients with many different systems and showing myself to be hardworking and passionate about what I do, I was made Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Domino systems. Being a SME meant that I was part of bid teams for new business, and technical advisor on Domino projects for existing clients. I used my patience and perseverance to solve problems and mentor other team members in being client-focused and paying attention to detail. My team grew to 8 developers and we supported customers globally. We supported 7 clients, administering 23 Lotus Domino servers covering 34 different applications for well over 100 000 users. My team and I were singled out and praised at presentations by the CEO on 4 separate occasions, as being an example of a successful and dedicated team. While at EDS I also held the role of Lead Technologist. I was responsible for meeting with the SMEs and making sure that they had the necessary support as far as hardware and software to meet the demands of their work.

Network Specialist responsible for user support, where I led a team of 4 technicians, covering 3 multi-story buildings. I would assess the incoming support requests and allocate them to the technicians or myself for action. I extended the functionality of the client's mainframe-based call logging system, by developing a call-tracking database using Microsoft Access. This allowed technicians to better manage the calls allocated to them. The database also enabled me to generate status reports on the work carried out for the client.
