Derek is a Certified Financial Planner or CFP professional. He enjoys showing his clients a better path to achieving financial security, and helping them traverse the inevitable bumps along the way. Everyday clients come in with one overarching concern - "Am I going to be OK?"​ This is especially true when life events seem overwhelming like a job loss, new baby, looming retirement, health issues or loss of a loved one. At Mallard Wealth Advisors, we help clients make informed decisions about their future by making sense of their current financial situation. Answering that question it is no wonder so many of our clients refer their friends and family. Derek graduated high school from Bishop James Mahoney High School in Saskatoon. He has a BA in History and English from the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Auckland, which he began while in the Infantry Reserve. Derek went on to do post graduate studies in secondary school teaching and subsequently taught English in New Zealand. Derek moved back to Canada in 2008 to pursue an opportunity with Brian Mallard & Associates.Derek is an avid reader with very eclectic tastes ranging from history to economics to science fiction. Derek likes to stay active and his current obsession is Crossfit. He also travels frequently with his family. His favorite places are Huatulco, Mexico to escape the cold and Whangarei, New Zealand, the hometown of his wife.
