Housing Architect + Advocate who helps novices sound like experts and experts sound like novices when discussing the housing crisis, urbanism, and design at the dinner table.I'm a long-time architect who is also a recovering real estate developer and general contractor. I enjoy all three disciplines, but architecture has been my passion since childhood. I used to stay up too late building entire cities with Legos, which, blended with my interest in art, caused me to declare (at age five) that I wanted to be a "draw-er" when I grew up.Even though I grew up only a stone's throw from the beach in Los Angeles, I shunned the obvious choice of surfing for the East Coast pleasures of Ice Hockey and Lacrosse. In these team-oriented sports, I learned the art of collaboration, which, combined with my graphic artistic abilities, led me to the career path of architecture. Besides, I eventually learned that there is no such career as a "draw-er".In my late twenties, I co-founded an architecture firm called Modative with $500 each in startup funds and began working out of a basement in Pasadena, California. We eventually expanded beyond architecture to become a construction company and real estate developer, becoming a true "triple threat," although no one uses that term in this industry (yet). In 2020, during the global pandemic, Modative joined forces with a startup company, United Dwelling, which specialized in modular Accessory Dwelling Units and infill residential development. Failure happens, especially in startups, and unfortunately, United Dwelling went out of business in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of amazing people and many lessons learned in the Modular world.I'm now at EYRC Architects as a housing specialist, working with our talented team to design multi-family residential buildings, such as apartments and large mixed-use projects. When I'm not architecting (real word) or being a housing policy nerd, I love spending time with two intelligent and beautiful ladies who live with me in Culver City, CA. I enjoy snowboarding, rooting for my favorite sports teams, boating, and building cardboard creations for my daughter. My life goal is to help solve one of society's greatest problems: the housing crisis. I'd love your help.
