Derek is the President and founder of Rider Enterprises Inc., Rider Holdings Inc. and Rider Global Ventures Inc. In this role, Derek oversees the firm’s investment portfolio. We invest in various companies, technology startups and commercial real estate ventures. We are particularly interested in movie studios / sound stages in the USA and the film/entertainment industry.

In the time of the COVID crisis, we needed hope. Stories of Humanity was a non-profit initiative, led by Derek and joined by multiple production companies and associations during the pandemic. We created films and interviews of people, brands and businesses doing the right thing in that difficult time. We secured distribution of the stories to 100M+ audience channels and the project culminated with an episode about the film and television community banding together, featuring Toronto Mayor John Tory.

Leveraging Derek’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, he worked in progressive roles at BNN (now BNN Bloomberg) as a Broadcast Associate and then Chase Producer. Derek was the only employee posted at the Toronto Stock Exchange, supporting all guest interviews with the Canadian corporate elite. He also oversaw 1 hour of national TV programming per week, where he learned how to leverage the talents of freelancers coast to coast and deliver production at TV quality and at scale.

Derek was a partner and sales/ marketing leader in Durable Concrete Products, a company specializing in water-resistant concrete admixtures (acquired 2010)

Derek worked as a Customer Service Representative and was promoted to being a Financial Service Representative at TD, while studying at Ryerson University (now TMU). This was Derek’s first real customer service and sales job. Derek consistently led his branch office in sales revenue in mortgage originations and core banking product sales.
