My kids think I spend my days talking about brown boxes. Truthfully, I do spend at least some of my day solving packaging problems and brainstorming how to sell more boxes. Yes, I am passionate about packaging. I am also passionate about my company and its reputation in the world, as well as about the people that I employ and the customers we supply. When you own your own company, the buck starts and ends with you. Everything is your problem, your responsibility, your risk and your concern. Most of my day is dedicated to leading my third generation family business into the fourth generation and beyond. I dedicate my days to supporting my associates and helping them succeed, not only at their jobs, but in life. I am also passionate about my faith and my family. In 2015 I published my first book Chasing the Rabbit: A Dad's Life Raising a Son on the Spectrum. It is a memoir about my experience raising a challenging child with autism. My son and I then spent several years traveling and speaking at conferences across the country. I learned a lot about myself, about audiences and about my son on those trips. Mostly, I learned that even though I am a very good speaker, my son Dylan Volk is an amazing speaker, capable of mesmerizing audiences around the country.

PresidentVolk Packaging Corporation Jan 2007 - PresentI have been the proud President of Volk Packaging since 2007. Volk Packaging Corporation is a third generation family business supplying other manufacturers across Northern New England. Our box shop prides itself on delivering superior customer service and innovative packaging solutions. We have been doing so since 1967, two years before I was even born!In my role as VPC President, I network all over the country with other independently owned and operated sheet plants in order to ensure that our customers and associates have the best possible leadership. I published my first book, "Chasing the Rabbit: A Dad's Life Raising a Son on the Spectrum" in 2015 and then spent several years traveling and speaking with my son about autism across the country. The only thing I enjoy more than speaking to an audience is watching my son Dylan Volk speak. In short, he is a "Rock Star" on stage, mesmerizing, entertaining and enlightening audiences about what it's like to live inside his brain. Dylan's book "Bad Choices Make Good Stories" is an honest and engaging autism memoir that I guarantee will make you laugh and cry, possibly in the same paragraph. -

Book Author And Public SpeakerD & A Publishing Jan 2015 - PresentOur oldest child –and only son – was two-years-old when my wife suggested, “Something is not quite right.” We struggled for the next several years as we were bounced from one “expert” to another, each offering a unique perspective on our son Dylan’s challenging behaviors. Finally, at eight-years-old, Dylan was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and our family was able to start making sense of Dylan’s differences. My memoir Chasing the Rabbit details my emotions and experiences coping with the diagnosis, treatment and adventures my wife and I experienced after our son was diagnosed with what at the time was called Asperger's Syndrome (now known as high-functioning autism or simply autism). When I wrote Chasing the Rabbit, there were no other books available written about autism by a dad for other dads. In Chasing the Rabbit: A Dad’s Life Raising a Son on the Spectrum, I share my experiences raising a son on the Autism spectrum. Both my son and I write about the challenges, triumphs and coping strategies from the early days to the adolescent years to life in the “real world” as a young adult. It is a look inside our lives as we struggle with discouragement and despair as well as when small milestones, such as "graduating" from 8th grade, take on intense significance. I promise this book and its companion memoir Bad Choice Make Good Stories; My Life with Autism, written by my son Dylan, will make you laugh, make you cry, make you angry and make you think. You may never look at autism the same way again!
