Derek Walters is a Retired at At last. He possess expertise in enforcement, police, investigation, evidence, forensic analysis and 6 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "Be it through poverty, slavery or sexually, the exploitation of children is one of the deepest flaws of mankind. The pain and suffering inflicted on vulnerable children by adults seeking sexual satisfaction is rightly illegal but is also wrong on many other levels. Within the law enforcement community there has always been a band of people who dedicated their professional lives to the struggle against this type of criminality . They work hard to protect children, lock up sex criminals and struggle against apathy and ignorance among our managerial and political masters. Derek Walters was one of that band. I first met Derek on a technical training course around 1999/2000 when Policing was finally stepping up to deal with how the Internet was being used to exploit children. We got on very well immediately. At that course we formed an online group that continues to this day and serves to educate each new generation of Police who work in this field. Derek remains a valuable member of that community. At that time many resources were being throw at the online issue. People like me began to work full time in the area mostly because we had technical skills. We knew this new beast that was the Internet and we were able to apply simple policing skills to this new "public place" even though it was virtual. In a sense we got it. Derek was different from a lot of his peers in that he never allowed the technical aspects of the internet to take away from what he saw and knew to be the truth - the exploitation of children pre-internet was exactly the same crime post internet except that there was a different way of perpetrating it. He taught young bucks like me that lesson and I still tell it all the time. The criminals are the same online and offline, pre internet and post internet and so never forget that simple policing skills efficiently applied will always do the trick. He will be missed in policing circles and I wish him the very best in this new chapter in his life and recommend him highly. One of his last actions before retirement contributed to the arrest of Child abuser in Ireland and the rescue of a number of children. I really do hope his encyclopedic knowledge of the subject is put to some use. Michael Moran"
