Derrick Perez embodies resilience and creativity, defying adversity from his early years in foster care in Hillsborough County. From a young age, his fascination with storytelling, fueled by superhero narratives, led him to negotiate his first movie theater premiere at just 14. While studying theater and commercial production, he founded Bloomingdale High School's inaugural film club, nurturing budding filmmakers. Amidst his academic pursuits, Derrick dedicated himself to advocating for vulnerable youth, joining on as a founding member to the Florida Guardian ad Litem Champions and serving as the State Office Youth Services Advisor.Transitioning from his child welfare role, Derrick delved back into his passion for filmmaking, accumulating diverse production experiences, from assistant director to line producer. In 2019, he established Axion Pictures, realizing his lifelong dream of crafting impactful films. Through Axion, Derrick has directed and produced numerous projects, including the acclaimed short film "Blink," premiered at the historic Tampa Theatre. Rooted in his Christian faith, Derrick sees filmmaking as a medium to inspire change and draw audiences closer to God, showcasing the transformative power of resilience and divine guidance in navigating life's challenges.
