Responsibilities include overseeing the instructional team at the Alliance home office, including directors of English Language Arts, mathematics, new teacher support, counseling, special education, and parent engagement.Implementation lead for the Alliance-wide teacher effectiveness initiative (The College-Ready Promise) funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This project includes the development of performance-based evaluation and compensation systems for teachers and principals.

As founding principal for the Stern Math and Science School (Stern MASS), I have helped develop the school into a top performing high school within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Stern MASS is a unique charter school collaboration between Alliance College-Ready Public Schools (www.laalliance.org) and California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). The mission for Stern MASS is to prepare students to be successful in college and to be able to pursue doctoral degrees in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Stern MASS is currently located on the campus of CSULA in a new three-level facility.Stern MASS is now one of the highest performing high schools in Los Angeles. Stern MASS was one of only 12 LAUSD high schools that earned a California Distinguished School Award for 2008. Stern MASS was also ranked #24 of the highest performing high schools in California on the 2011 US News and World Report High School Rankings (Gold Award, #141 rank nationally).
